The dawn of a new decade signifies the beginning of another exciting period for Irish boxing with the stars of the next generation being showcased on the Yanjing Fight Night at the National Stadium in Dublin on Saturday, February 13th. For the first time ever a record breaking 4 Irish titles will be up for grabs on the same night with the Heavyweight, Super Middleweight, Lightweight and Featherweight belts on the line. The event will be headlined by the long talked about clash between unbeaten Cavan star Andy Murray and Dublin's Oisin “Gael Force” Fagan in their Irish Lightweight decider. |

Reigning European Middleweight Champion Matthew Macklin knows that a win over Uruguayan Champion Rafa Sosa Pintos at the National Stadium in Dublin tomorrow night will take him another step closer to his dream of becoming World Champion in 2010.
Macklin has enjoyed a sensational year to date that has seen him win the British and Middleweight titles with back to back destructive KO’s but Pintos is planning to ruin all that good work and spoil Macklin’s Christmas and New Year. |

Although he’s had an incredible 2009 reigning European Middleweight champ Matthew Macklin is hoping that 2010 will be even better. The Birmingham based Irishman has enjoyed a tremendous year requiring less than 10 minutes in the boxing ring to capture the British and European Middleweight titles. Macklin will look to round out the year in style this Saturday when he takes on Uruguayan champion, Rafa Sosa Pintos in the main event of the Sierra Fight Night at the National Stadium, Dublin.
However had things turned out differently Macklin could have been fighting his battles in the courtroom rather than in the boxing ring. As an 18 year old and having acquired nine GCSEs and A levels in English, History and German Macklin began a law degree at Coventry University. However after completing his first year in University Macklin was forced to abandon his studies in order to focus solely on the boxing ring. |
