Macklin V Sturm live in Times Square

Matthew Macklin's World title bid in Germany on June 25th will be broadcast exclusively live in the US on Epix while the fight will also be beamed live on a big screen in New York's Times Squre (Broadway at 44th St.). Two time European Champ Macklin faces local hero Felix Sturm at the 20,000 seater Lanxess Arena in Cologne for the German's WBA World Middleweight title and Epix are delighted to be able to offer the fight to American viewers exclusively on their multiplatform premium entertainment service. EpixHD.com, will also stream the fight live in the US as part of a free two-week trial offer. The live broadcast and the live stream on EPIX and EpixHD.com, respectively, will begin at 5 p.m. Eastern Time.

“The middleweight division is one of boxing’s most storied and exciting divisions and EPIX looks forward to exclusively broadcasting the Sturm-Macklin middleweight title fight to the U.S. It should be a very exciting match-up,” said Mark Greenberg, President and CEO of EPIX.

He has been christened “The Quiet Man” of Irish boxing but unbeaten Cavan man Andy Murray is determined to make plenty of noise in Cardiff this Saturday night by lifting the European Lightweight title when he takes on former World Champ Gavin Rees live on Sky Sports.

It's 6am on a Monday morning in April in the beautiful but barren landscape of the Connemara Gaeltacht, where Ireland's western edge meets the Atlantic ocean. When the sun is shining this part of the world can seem like a little piece of heaven on earth but on this particular morning the sun isn't shining. To misquote an old U2 lyric, there's a howling wind and a stinging rain and the first shafts of early morning light are struggling to break through the black clouds. It's dark, cold, wet and forbidding but Andy Murray would not have it any other way as he pounds out the first few miles of roadwork at the start of a 6 week training camp that will culminate in his challenge for the European title in Cardiff this weekend.

Macklin on German charm offensive in the calm before the “Sturm”

Matthew Macklin raised eyebrows amongst the German media yesterday when he came face to face with Felix Sturm at their press conference in Cologne ahead of their World title fight in the city on June 25th. Two time European Middleweight Champ Macklin made a big impression by addressing the assembled media in perfect German but he has promised that the charm offensive will be replaced with a far more aggressive offensive once he enters the ring at the 20,000 seater Lanxess Arena next month.


Having studied German in school for 6 years Macklin was happy to deliver a warning to Sturm in German to ensure that nothing was lost in translation. “I’m going to win, there is no doubt in my mind about that,” said Macklin. “Felix is a great technician, he has been a great Champion and he has my utmost respect but this is my time and my strength and power will be decisive in winning the fight.”
